Engineering Disciplines/Careers

Engineering is the application of scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge, in order to design, build, and maintain structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes. The engineering career offers a wide variety of fields to work in so its better for an engineer to specialize in a certain factor. More than twentyfive major specialties are recognized by professional societies and are also separated in numerous subdivisions. The general practitioners of the engineering profession are the Mechanical engineers since they work in nearly every area of technology. Engineers also may specialize in one industry, such as motor vehicles, or in one field of technology, such as turbines or semiconductor materials. Engineers in each branch have a base of knowledge and training that can be applied in many fields. Electronics engineers for example work in the medical, computer, communications, and missile guidance fields. Because there are many separate problems to solve in a large engineering project, engineers in one field often work closely with specialists in other scientific, engineering, and business occupations. There is a big variety of engineering careers and a new student must not be confused in picking the right field for him, with the right research he can pick the one that suits him.
