ENGINEERING MATERIALS

     ENGINEERING MATERIALS

Engineering materials is an interdisciplinary field applying the properties of matter to various areas of science and engineering. Engineering Materials are separated into three categories: metals, thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics and can be categorized acording to their uses. The first category, metals can be used in aircraft, engine components, valves, general purpose, saws. Some examples of metals are aluminium, copper, brass, mild steel and hih carbon steel. The second category, thermoplastics, can be used in safety helmets, baths and bearings. For instance some thermoplastics are  ABS, Acrylic and Nylon. The third category, thermosetting plastics can be used in adhesives, moulding and electrical fittings. For example some thermosetting plastics are epoxy resin, polyester resin and urea formaldehyde. In conclusion, materials must be used with great caution in order to manufacture objects without defects.
